Steelers issue statement about Holmes lawsuit

Wide receiver Santonio Holmes with steelers jersey being sued by University of Central Florida student Anshonae Mills for battery assault, the AFC North franchise has issued a statement.

"We are disappointed to learn about the recent incident involving Santonio Holmes in Florida," Steelers team president Art Rooney II said. "While we are continuing to gather the facts, I cannot comment further until we have more information and have spoken to Santonio and his representatives." Holmes allegedly threw a glass at Mills at an Orlando nightclub, which allegedly caused a laceration near her eye.

Holmes claimed that he was an NFL football player and could not face criminal charges.

Smith, Carr duel for QB job

Alex Smith and David Carr had been NO.1 overall selections in the NFL draft three years ago, now thay are still battling to chase the 49ers jersey.

That competition began in earnest Monday when the 49ers conducted their first organized team activity practice of 2010. The team went to work without departed general manager Scot McCloughan, who left last week in what team president Jed York called a “mutual parting.” As the incumbent quarterback, Smith clearly is in the early lead, with Carr in the background getting familiar with his new surroundings but also getting ready for a shot at the job.

According to Carr that it's a fresh start with a hungry team. He thinks it matchs where he is at in his career. Niners is ready to go out and prove as a group that they can do it.

Perrish Cox is ready for the workout

Cornerback Perrish Cox may have the chance to have a NFL jersey. But after the disappointed running much slower than expected at the NFL scouting combine, he is intent on redeeming himself Tuesday at his Pro Day workout in his hometown of Waco, Tex.

Now he predicts a much faster time. Cox told the National Football Post in a telephone interview that a good time for him would be low 4.4. He has been working on this a lot. He has been ready for that for a minute. "At the combine, I wasn’t as ready as I should have been. I wasn’t quite as prepared as I could have been. I basically hurt himself. I wasn’t in the shape I am now."

He said he has to be patient. he cant wait for Tuesday. His family is ready to see him do his thing.

Felix Jones will be No. i running back

South Dakota State Pro Day results

According to a league source, a pair of South Dakota State offensive linemen drew the attention of NFL teams to their Pro Day work out. Wow, some new players will have their NFL jerseys.

And Casey Bender and Casey Knips’ results compare favorably to many of the top offensive line performances at the NFL scouting combine. At 6-foot-7, 306 pounds, Knips, who has 34-inch arms, bench pressed 225 pounds 28 times. He turned in a 28-inch vertical leap and an 8-8 broad jump. He ran the 40-yard dash between 5.1 and 5.2 seconds with a 4.75 in the short shuttle and a 7.8 three-cone drill.

But Bender had 33-inch arms and bench pressed 225 pounds 25 times with a 28-inch vertical leap. His 40-yard dash time ranged between 5.0 and 5.1 seconds.

Jerry West is not interested in Warriors

It is said that Jerry West involved with Ellison's bid but Jerry said he had nothing to do with the players with wizards jerseys.

West said he has not talked to Larry for a number of years but Frank Hughes reports he spoke with West days before the Warriors' announcement Monday that the team is for sale. Though he said he was not in the loop in the NBA, but this 71-year-old man has not closed the door on returning to the league. He says he sat back and watch the game from a distance. He watched the teams who are sliding. He look at plaves where there are opportunities to make enormous headway.

Golden State would seem to fit that latter criterion.

Patriots get 4 compensatory picks

Players with patriots jersey are the big winner for losing free agents last year.

New England lost Heath Evans, Jabar Gaffney, Larry Izzo, LaMont Jordan and Lonie Paxton before the 2009 season, and signed only Brandon McGowan. In all, 32 such picks were given out Monday, with 19 teams getting at least one. Carolina, Pittsburgh and Tennessee each get three, while Atlanta, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Philadelphia receive two. Getting one compensatory choice will be Green Bay, Detroit, Jacksonville, Miami, Minnesota, Oakland, St. Louis, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa Bay and San Francisco.

Compensatory picks are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. A team losing more or better players than it acquires is eligible. The picks can’t be traded.

Umpires will be moved to backfield

Players with NFL jerseys have to pay attention to it: the league will move umpires into the offensive backfield this year in a safety move according to the report of ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Citing the protection of the officials as the motivating factor, departing vice president of officiating Mike Pereira said the move was being made. The league has tinkered with the idea in the past. Umpires were placed in the backfield on an experimental basis in the 2001 preseason. The league also looked at it by moving the men in action in now defunct NFL Europe.

The umpires had been knocked down 100 times in 2009. Two men suffered concussion and three requires surgeries for knee and shoulder issues.

Jets sign Laury

Former Seahawks linebacker and special teams captain Lance Laury will have the chance to show his jets jersey.

Laury was a restricted free agent who wasn’t tendered by Seattle, where he spent his first four seasons. He had 21 tackles and one forced fumble on special teams last season. He’ll help bolster a Jets unit that has already lost special teams standouts in Wallace Wright (Carolina) and Marques Murrell(notes) (New England), and likely Larry Izzo, a free agent whose status is uncertain after suffering a season-ending spine injury last year.

Laury was signed by Seattle as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina in 2006.

Rashad Jeanty visits Dolphins

A league source confirmed that free agent linebacker Rashad Jeanty with bengals jersey visited the Miami Dolphins today.

Jeanty was given the original pick low tender, so the Bengals have the right to match. However, because he was undrafted, there’s no draft pick compensation if they choose not to match. The 6-foot-2, 247-pounder was replaced in the starting lineup last season and broke his leg during the Bengals’ playoff loss to the New York Jets. Jeanty started all but one game two years ago when he registered 96 tackles to rank second on the team.

Seahawks acquiring Charlie

Charlie Whitehurst with seahawks jersey was expected to be a worthy successor to incumbent Matt.

The seahawks have agreed to a move to obtain Whitehurst from the Chargers according to ESPN. According to the report. Seattle will send a 2011 third-round draft pick and move down 20 positions in the second rond of this year's draft to San Diego for Whitehurst. The seahawks do not have a third-round pick in this year's draft,so they had to work out a trade to acquire him. The Seahawks also signed the former Clemson quarterback.

Whitehurst is a player with upside, but he will need to do a lot to justify the investment.

Bills sign Davis

It is said the team signed eight-year Nfl veteran Andra Davis to a two-year contract and defensive end Dwan agreed to a four-year contract worth potentially close to $18 million with the Bills, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press early Wednesday morning. Both players have played in the 3-4 system, which features three linemen and four linebackers.

Davis said he was glad that process if over with. He felt good and just ready to go.

Nash reached his 1000th game

Fans with suns jersey booed when the team drafted Nash in 1996.

Nash played in his 1,000th NBA game on Sunday night, ever the crafty playmaker with 13 points and 12 assists in the Suns’ 120-106 victory over the New Orleans Hornets.
“To play 1,000 games is amazing,” the 36-year-old point guard said. “Part of me feels like it just means I’m old, but if someone had told me when I was 15, 16, 17 years old that I’d play a thousand games as a professional basketball player, I’d probably have been pretty happy.” Nash was the 10th active player in the league to reach the 1,000-game milestone.

DT Gerard Warren was released

Defensive tackle Gerard Warren took off his raiders jersey. The team released him on Thursday, letting go of yet another veteran this offseason.

The decesion to release him follows moves in the past week to cut ties with running back Justin, defensive end Greg Ellis and receiver Javon Walker. Those moves help the Raiders save money, as well as open up opportunities for young players to get more significant playing time. The beneficiary of Warren’s release could be Desmond Bryant, an undrafted free agent out of Harvard who showed signs of potential as a rookie.

Warren has 229 solo tackles, 32 sacks, seven forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in his career. He has been to the playoffs just once in his nine seasons.

Anthony Davis takes a pass on Rutgers' Pro day

Anthony Davis with saints jersey did not work out for at today's campus Pro Day workout.

According to NFL.com, Davis’ agent called in sick for him following a Tuesday night dinner with an NFL coach. When he did show up, he was sent home after announcing he wouldn’t be working out. Per the report, Davis’ no-show act angered scouts who had traveled to Rutgers to check him out. The plot thickens as Mike Mayock went on NFL Network and reported that Davis’ absence was because of a hamstring injury that wasn’t passed along thoroughly to teams. With several NFL offensive line coaches in attendance, Davis reportedly had to be called to meet with them. Then, he refused to weigh in.

This isn’t the first time that his attitude and conditioning have been under scrutiny.

Wade leads heat past Hawks

Colts tender 2 safties

Gary Brackett did not wear the colts jersey at the deadline. Indy still hopes its defensive captain will be staying home next season.

Nebraska’s Hickman does not care the chance to NFL

Jacob Hickman is not interested in NFL jersey.

“Playing in the NFL was never a dream for me, like the end-all, be-all,” Hickman said. “I kind of thought if that happens, it’s something I would do. As it has progressed, I’ve kind of gone in a different direction.” Some scouting services ranked Hickman as high as the No. 10 center available in April’s NFL draft. But a few days after the Cornhuskers beat Arizona in the Holiday Bowl, Hickman came to the conclusion that he simply doesn’t feel like playing football anymore.
